It's very difficult. There are 1000's of paper but you only have 5 chances to figure out which one it is. Ridiculous.

You don't level up unless you spend a bunch of money (not at the beginning, of course). As you progress, be prepared to either take FOREVER to level up or spend money. It SUCKS!
