We're trying to make something magical. We want people to share their wishes, hopes, dreams, and general positive messages. We think the world has gotten far too dark, so let's light it up!
Sky Lanterns (also know as Chinese, Wish, or Kongming Lanterns) are small hot air balloons. They were invented way back on 300BC in China, and have been used in festivals for centuries. Traditionally, people write their wishes, and messages of hope on them before releasing them into the sky as part of celebrations.
Our Sky Lantern app is a 3D client for Twitter. It uses Augmented Reality to display Sky Lanterns floating in 3D all around you, as if you were at an amazing sky lantern festival in Taipei, or anywhere else in the world.
Tap on a lantern to read it's message. It's as simple as that. Launch new lanterns by posting with #SkyLanternApp
By default, Sky Lantern searches for #SkyLanternApp to show you all the messages that have been shared by fellow Sky Lantern users, however, it can also be set to show your Twitter feed, or a specific search of your choice. Whatever you choose, each Tweet will appear as a floating sky lantern. You need to see it for yourself!
Sky Lantern also reacts to certain hashtags. For example, if a #pride post is being displayed, the lantern will have a rainbow pattern instead of being plain.
