I had an experience that really exposed a core problem with Woot’s barebones approach to web sales:
I bought a product using amazon pay and the address was wrong (an old address). Probably my fault, but I reached out to Woot after I realized and before the product shipped.
With shipping companies, usually the only entity that can change delivery instructions or have a product held at a facility is the shipper, particularly before 1st attempt. I would not have minded even to travel to a facility to get the product.
Woot may have been able to do this, but I would never know because I never got a response. I ended up emailing them 6 times through their own portal, and not one single response, no confirmation of receipt, nothing. There is no phone line or live chat service with whom to engage. Once you purchase, you are on your own.
Woot prices are no longer elite, but it can still be useful when you are a shopaholic or just far out from needing a particular thing, and want to use them as part of a network to look for sales.
However, I am very wary of a company that flat out ignores customers that it is currently engaged in a transaction with. That’s a huge red flag. This was a minor purchase, less than $100. What could happen with a more substantial purchase?
What if you found the exact price you were looking for on Woot and had it shipped, there is some kind of error, you are reaching out to customer service, and just nothing, crickets. What do you do?
