Безымянный герой оказался в мрачном мире на границе сонной мечты и кошмара. Он не помнит, как его зовут и откуда он пришёл. Путешествуя по разным местам, он старается раскрыть правду об окружающем его мире и о нём самом.
Онейроидную атмосферу представленного мира навеяли работы художников Ганса Рудольфа Гигера и Здислава Бексинского. Окончательный вид игры возник также под впечатлением от игр Demon’s Souls и Dark Seed. Всё вместе и предопределило мир игры, депрессивный и полный мрака.

TORMENTUM to pełna mroku gra przygodowa typu Point & Click.
Bezimienny bohater znalazł się w miejscu z pogranicza sennego marzenia i koszmaru. Nie pamięta skąd przybył ani jak się nazywa. Przemierzając kolejne krainy usiłuje poznać prawdę o otaczającym go świecie, jak i o sobie samym.
Oniryczny klimat przedstawionego świata został zainspirowany twórczością malarzy H.R.Gigera oraz Zdzisława Beksińskiego. Duży wpływ na ostateczny wygląd gry miały również światy przedstawione w takich produkcjach, jak mroczna seria gier Souls. Mieszanka ta dała życie pełnemu mroku i przygnębienia światu.
Akcja gry rozpoczyna się w momencie, gdy główny bohater budzi się zamknięty w metalowej klatce, przytwierdzonej łańcuchem do wielkiej machiny latającej. Wygląda na to, że jest jej pasażerem wbrew swojej woli, a owa machina zmierza w nieznanym mu kierunku. Jego jedynym wspomnieniem po które jest w stanie sięgnąć pamięcią zdaje się być niewyraźna wizja wzgórza, na którym znajduje się rzeźba przedstawiająca wniesione ku niebu ludzkie ręce.
Niestety, na razie ma większe problemy na głowie, bo oto ów statek powietrzny ląduje w wielkim zamczyszku, które następnie staje się dla niego więzieniem. Tak zaczyna się ta surrealistyczna opowieść z pogranicza snu i jawy.

▪ FABUŁA: Mroczna przygoda z pogranicza snu i jawy.

W trakcie przygody wielokrotnie podejmiemy ważne decyzje, które przyniosą określone skutki w finale przygody, prowadząc przy tym do jednego z dwóch zakończeń.
